Join the France Florida Foundation for the Arts

July 20, 2017 | By FRENCH CULTURE MIAMI

The France Florida Foundation for the Arts (FFFA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by American French culture lovers, in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Miami and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S.

Our Mission: Building a bridge between France and Florida

The various actions of the FFFA aim to encourage all forms of cultural, educational and professional cooperation between French and Floridian institutions and individuals, and to increase the awareness of French and Francophone culture and history.

In order to achieve this mission, the FFFA supports and raises funds for French visual and performing arts. The FFFA is presided today by Dr. Melissa Patrylo. Its Honorary Chair is Dr. Philip Frost.

Our achievements

Since 2004, the Foundation has been raising hundreds of thousand dollars to support and produce several meaningful and high quality cultural events every year.

Just to cite a few recent examples of these events:

In 2015, the FFFA supported William Christie’s “Arts Florissants” concert at the New World Symphony and invited Sylvie Patry, Chief Curator of the Musée d’Orsay, to the conference “America and France: New Perspectives on Transatlantic Visual Culture” at S.P. Harn Museum.

In 2016, it supported the designers’ and art symposium “Abecedarium - Masquerade Ball from A to Z” curated by French design theorist Alexandra Midal, at the Pérez Art Museum Miami during Miami Art week, bringing together various experts, academics and artists from the whole world to speak on each letter of the alphabet on a particular theme related to the masquerade ball.

Every year, the FFFA also supports two major events:

  • The Congrès de la Culture Française in Orlando founded in 1952, which every year reunites hundreds of young school participants from all over Florida to express their talent and creativity through French theatre plays, speeches and other competitions in the French language. In 2017, the FFFA cofunded the French government grant, in partnership with the French Embassy’s Cultural Services: this grant was offered to the young winner of the Congrès, to attend the famous French theatre festival in Avignon this summer.

  • The French Film Festival “Films on the Beach”, launched in 2014, is offering every spring free open air screenings of French movies at Miami Beach Soundscape Park, in partnership with the City of Miami Beach. Other partners such as Miami Beach Cinémathèque, O Cinema and Faena Art have joined this successful festival.

  •
  • Our upcoming priority projects:

The FFFA will support two major projects in the upcoming months. You can decide to support one of them to win invitations and enjoy many other advantages:

The first French-Caribbean Art Festival Tout-Monde will be launched March 1st to 4th, 2018, during the Francophonie Month. This festival will showcase the work and talent of contemporary artists, from the Francophone Caribbean region, and increase synergies with other artists and institutions from the whole Caribbean region, spanning from Colombia to the Bahamas and St Barth. Its aim is to increase Miami’s role as an international hotspot for Caribbean contemporary art, bringing together French-speaking, English, Hispanic, Dutch and Creole communities. It will be held in various indoor and outdoor locations in Miami, in partnership with local cultural institutions and partners.

The FFFA is bringing for the first time to the USA Nouvelle Vague, a French designer show. Launched in 2011 at the Milan Furniture Fair and curated by Cédric Morisset, the third edition of this show will highlight five growing French designers. Varying in style but united in a spirit of artistic complicity, these designers outline the new contours of the French domestic landscape, whilst their work creates a manifesto to freely create and take initiatives.
