MUSEUMS TODAY

This platform was conceived as a French-American exchange of perspectives centered on issues and themes that drive museums and private foundations alike. Several topics of reflection will be studied over the course of these two days of discussion: exhibiting collections, presenting new perspectives on art history, offering an artistic yet pedagogic program, producing new works and supporting the creation of contemporary art, and opening international axis museums in an effort to globalize a museum’s presence. This program is part of ART², a month-long visual arts festival exploring ideas through seven themes paramount to the international art world.

Zombie Zombie in Concert

Zombie Zombie is a French electro-pop duo formed by Etienne Jaumet (synthesizers, analog modular drum machines, effects, vox) and Cosmic Neman (drums, percussion, vox, rototoms, bongos, maracas, tambourine), plus the French electro-engineer, Joakim, behind the controls. Together they reinterpret the music of John Carpenter.

Their latest album, Rituels d'un Nouveau Monde, evokes the idea of dialogue between the spiritual language of music and its magic, and shows a strong influence of African and Caribbean rhythms.

ART & SOCIETY

The Nouveaux Commanditaires (in English, New Protocol) program is a socially engaged initiative created by the artist François Hers and supported by Fondation de France. This singular program arranges collaborations between three key players: the artist, the civil society, and the cultural mediator, with the involvement of public and private partners. Using the New Protocol as a model, Art & Society anaylizes similar initiatives in the United States. Workshops will introduce the role of mediator within the New Protocol context and consider its significance to the larger curatorial and commissioning field. This program is part of ART², a month-long visual arts festival exploring ideas through seven themes paramount to the international art world.

Art of the Real 2014

Join the Film Society of Lincoln Center for their new annual series Art of the Real, a nonfiction showcase founded on the most expansive possible view of documentary film. It is a platform for filmmakers and artists who have given us a wider view of nonfiction cinema and at the same time brought the form full circle, back to its early, boundary-pushing days. In keeping with the emergence of documentary as a primary mode of art making, it also includes work that has typically shown in galleries and art-world contexts rather than in cinemas, or that has forged connections between both worlds.
